This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the foundational principles, policies, and practices of special and inclusive education. It explores the philosophical, theoretical, historical, legal, and practical perspectives of special and inclusive education. Students will examine a range of exceptionalities, including those who are gifted and talented, at-risk and those with difficulties in seeing, hearing, mobility, communication, basic learning and knowledge application, memory, concentration, attention, understanding, applying adaptive skills, and displaying interpersonal behavior.
Through the exploration of evidenced-based practices, students will learn to design accessible and engaging instructional strategies, materials, and activities by applying the principles of Differentiated Instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to create inclusive educational experiences.
